Games like GTA 6 to play while you wait

GTA 6 comes out on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, with no PC or phone version announced. Until then, the closest game is Rockstar's own GTA V, while Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Mafia: The Old Country cover the city, the outlaw story and the crime drama. On iPhone, Roam has small free crime and city games.

What a game like GTA 6 needs

GTA 6 is set in Leonida, Rockstar's take on modern Florida, with Vice City at its center. You play Jason and Lucia, a criminal couple, so the story is about two people pulling jobs together. Around that sits the classic GTA loop: steal a car, do the job, lose the police.

So the best picks while you wait have a big modern city, cars worth stealing and a crime story. The list below says where each one runs, since many PC players are looking because GTA 6 has no PC date.

Open-world crime games to play now

GTA V and GTA Online (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC). The closest you can get today. Three leads, big heists, and an online city that still gets updates.
GTA: The Trilogy, The Definitive Edition (PS5, PS4, Xbox, Switch, PC). The 2021 remaster of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas. Play the 1980s Vice City before you see the new one.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC). Rockstar's 2018 western, also playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility. Slower than GTA, with a huge world and a long outlaw story.
Cyberpunk 2077 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC). CD Projekt Red's neon city RPG. Cars, gangs, guns and a story shaped by your choices.
Mafia: The Old Country (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC). Hangar 13's 2025 story game set in 1900s Sicily. More linear than GTA, heavy on the crime drama.

On iPhone

There is no GTA 6 for phones. Rockstar still sells older GTA games such as San Andreas on the App Store, and Netflix no longer carries any GTA games. For quick, free city chaos, Roam is an iPhone app with short games built around cars, heists and city life. They are small separate games, not GTA.

Steal Every Car (Roam). A top-down car-theft sandbox. If it has wheels, it can be yours.
Vault Breaker (Roam). A first-person voxel bank heist. Hammer in hand, vault ahead.
UNDERGLOW: Interstate Nights (Roam). Neon street racing, weaving through traffic at night.
Block Wars (Roam). A 5v5 street shooter. Hold the block, chain kills, call in the ride-by.
Rent Before Curfew (Roam). An open-world city life sim. Rent is due and the clock says 17:04.
