Tower defense games like Plants vs Zombies

Plants vs. Zombies is a lane tower defense game by PopCap Games, released in 2009. You plant defenders in rows of your lawn to stop waves of zombies. It still gets played, and the brainrot twist on Roblox made the idea trend again.

Why Plants vs Zombies still works

There are five or six lanes, and each zombie walks straight down one. You collect sun to plant sunflowers for more sun, peashooters for damage and walnuts to stall. Every level adds a new plant or zombie, so the game teaches itself.

PvZ 2 is free on phones, and Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, a remaster of the first game, came to PC and consoles in 2025.

Plants vs. Brainrots. A 2025 Roblox hit that mixes PvZ-style plant defense with Italian brainrot characters you collect and sell.

Lane defense is easy to remix because the base rule is so clear. Try one of these:

Swap the sides. You send the zombies and a friend plants the defense.
Your house, your stuff. Defend your kitchen with appliances against angry groceries.
Meme invasion. Waves of brainrot characters, and you plant the counter-meme.
